5 proposal trends for 2020
As a proposal photographer, I see proposal photography growing every year. Proposal photography was virtually unheard of when I started my business in 2010 and has grown to be one of the main focuses of my business! Here are the top 5 proposal trends for 2020.
1. Hiring a proposal photographer
Hey, don’t be surprised that hiring a proposal photographer made the list! After all, I am a Branson proposal photographer myself. Whether you chose a “hide in the bushes” type of proposal or a planned photoshoot turned proposal, having a photographer at your proposal in 2020 is an absolute must.
2. Involving friends and family
Another trend that I saw more in 2019 and expect to continue in 2020 is the involvement of family and friends. Whether family and friends are watching from a secret location, or simply somewhere nearby, having friends and family close is a great way to celebrate the special moment.
Andrew and Morgan brought the whole crew! Although Morgan didn’t know it. 🙂 Check out their Top of the Rock proposal to see more.
3. Combining proposals with engagement sessions
If you’re going to hire a proposal photographer, why not make it an official proposal/engagement session? Many couples still have a separate engagement session, but some combine the proposal itself with an engagement session. If nothing else, make sure to use the special images from your proposal photos for a save-the-date.
Dillon proposed to Haily early in their “couples session” and they used the rest of our time for some amazing engagement photos! You can check out their proposal and wedding here on the blog.
4. Destination proposals
As someone with a photography business in a tourist area, I know that destination proposals keep getting more popular. Whether you’re visiting a close-to-home destination like Branson, a theme park like Disney World, or somewhere more exotic like Hawaii, the destination proposal trend just keeps growing.
Psst, did you know that I have a Travel Agency where I focus on honeymoon and destination wedding travel? And yes, I do book destination proposal vacations!
5. Holiday Proposals
While I photograph proposals all year, there is definitely a spike around the holidays. In Branson, we have a lot of holiday proposals at places like Silver Dollar City, where the 6.5 million Chrismas lights are a fantastic backdrop.
